We love summer especially here in Putnam County!

It’s a great opportunity to take a break from school or work, take advantage of your home’s outdoor space, and just have fun. And with the summertime, comes the heat.

Did you know that too much heat and not enough water can cause your lawn to look dry and discolored. In order to help maintain a healthy lawn all season long, lawn sprinkler installation would be your best bet.

Here are a few things to add to your lawn sprinkler installation checklist for the summer season:

Soil:

There’s a possibility that your soil may still be frozen from the winter weather or the fluctuating temperatures in the springtime. It’s best to check the soil first-hand to avoid pipe damage during installation.

How To: Take a shovel and go down about 12 inches below the top layer of the ground. Once it’s thawed, then you know the installation process will go through much smoother. If the ground is still firm, wait another week and then check it again.

Controller:

This is probably one of the most important tips in sprinkler system installation and repair. Checking the control unit is important to making sure the system is running smoothly.

What to look for: Any sort of battery replacements that may need to be taken care of is the most important. Testing the system and seeing if there are any connection problems. If so, you may need to call in a sprinkler service.

Wear and Tear:

Common outdoor tools like shovels, plows and lawn mowers can cause damage to your sprinkler system during the winter and early springtime. Any damage should be replaced as soon as possible by a sprinkler system professional

Valves and Surge:

The valve and surge are like a heart pump; it’s the travel system for water to get through the pipes and out onto the lawn through the sprinkler itself. A leaky valve or surge can cause migration problems. It’s important to have this part of the sprinkler system inspected, especially in the case of a suspicious circumstance, like low water pressure.

Water Pressure:

There are typically only two things that can go wrong with water pressure in a sprinkler system. The water could either be too high or too low.

If it’s too high, the irrigation system can get damaged; but if it’s too low the system will be inefficient when it comes time to water the lawn.

What should I do: Simply raise or lower the water pressure until it is within the suggested operating range of 40-65psi.
